We are hiring at ShortCircuited Robotics — a working repair bench in Brooklyn that does component-level logic board repair every day. One seat, two ways in: a board repair technician on commission only for an experienced tech, and an internship for the same seat for someone we train from the ground up. Both require a real interest in MacBook boards. Neither starts with a resume — the interview is a live phone call to (929) 487-3802.
Open Position: Board Repair Technician (Commission Only)
MacBook Logic Board Technician — Brooklyn, NY
Pay: Commission only — a percentage of every job you complete, no cap. Type: Contractor, on-site at our Brooklyn bench.
The job:
- Diagnose and repair laptop logic boards at component level — MacBook boards are the core of the work: power sequences, shorted rails, EC/SMC resets, Tristar/T2-era faults, connector and FET replacement under the stereo microscope.
- Read Apple and PC schematics and boardviews to trace faults.
- Turn jobs around reliably — on a commission bench, throughput and quality are the same skill.
- Water-damage boards are a specialty of ours — see our water damage repair process for exactly how this bench works.
Must have:
- Real board-level repair experience — you have fixed boards, not just swapped parts.
- MacBook logic board ability is the one non-negotiable. If you cannot work Apple boards, this seat is not the fit.
- Own hand tools welcome; shop provides microscopes, hot air, DC supplies, ultrasonic and a stocked parts wall.
Open Position: Board Repair Internship (Same Seat)
Board Repair Internship — Train Toward the Bench
Pay: Training seat — unpaid internship; techs who make the grade move onto commission work. Type: Intern, part-time, on-site, school-schedule friendly.
The deal:
- No portfolio required — steady hands, patience, and you actually like fixing things.
- Train on real customer boards, not kits: stereo microscopy, soldering and hot air, schematic and boardview reading, with MacBook boards as the main curriculum.
- The path is deliberate: prove it on the bench and you earn the same commission seat as the technician role — which is where the money is.
- Every board you train on is portfolio-grade work experience.

How the Live Interview Works
We do not hire off resumes or email threads. The whole process is built around one phone call:
- Call (929) 487-3802. Ask for the board repair position — technician or internship. If we are with a customer, leave a callback time; we return calls the same day.
- ~10 minutes on the phone. What you have fixed, how you diagnose, what you want to learn. For the internship: tell us why boards.
- Bench try-out. If it sounds like a fit, you come to the shop and work a real board under the microscope — paid for technicians.
- Start. Bench slots are limited, so the seat closes when we fill it.
The Boards You Would Actually Work On
We work from real schematics and boardviews on every job — here is an actual component map of a MacBook board from our open library. If this image makes you want to flip it over and find the short, you are who we are talking to:

Frequently Asked Questions
How does commission-only pay work for the board repair technician role?
You earn a percentage of every job you complete, paid on each completed repair. There is no base salary and no cap — a fast, careful tech who turns around boards reliably earns more every week. We settle commission on a regular pay schedule, and during the paid bench try-out you earn on the boards you finish.
Why must I be able to work on MacBook logic boards?
MacBook board work is the core of our board-level business — power sequences, shorted rails, EC and SMC resets, Tristar/T2-era issues, connector and FET replacement under the microscope. A tech who can work Apple schematics and boardviews can be productive here in days; a tech who cannot will be guessing. It is the one hard requirement.
Do I need my own tools?
The shop bench provides the big iron: stereo microscopes, hot air, DC power supplies, ultrasonic, and a stocked parts wall. Bring your own handpieces and favorite tips if you are picky — most techs are — but you can start on ours.
Is the internship paid?
The internship is a training seat, not a paid position: you train on real customer boards under the shop tech, learning microscopy, soldering, schematics and boardviews. The path is deliberate — make the grade on the bench and you move onto the same commission work as the technician role, which is where the money is.
What happens during the live interview?
It starts with a phone call — we do not hire off resumes. Expect about ten minutes on the phone: what you have fixed, how you diagnose, what you want to learn. If it sounds like a fit, you come in for a paid bench try-out on a real board, and we go from there.
Can students apply for the internship?
Yes. The internship works well for students and career-changers who want real board-level experience — we are flexible around school schedules, and the skills are portfolio-grade: every board you train on is a real repair, not a kit.
